:: As the Story Goes :: The following is a typical story of our ministry to families. People call us on a daily basis asking for help. We obtain a list of information about that person and what their specific needs are. Then, we take that list, go to our warehouse and start pulling items which have been donated that match the person's requests. It is so exciting to see God work. Sometimes people are very specific, other times they are very vague; almost ashamed of asking for help so they don't want to ask for much at all. While we are pulling items, we feel the need to add this and that, a specific type or color of blanket, etc. Then, later when we are delivering the items, it will be something they always wanted, had to leave behind or it matches perfectly with their preferences. God is awesome. It is such a blessing to see the reactions these people have when we come to their homes. Usually, we drive up in a cargo van stuffed full of things that we think might help them or they have asked for. Children come out of the house and start taking in boxes and bags of kitchen supplies, bedding, games, toys and clothes. Anything that we have received that suits one of the families, we take and give them as soon as we can. It is like Christmas morning. Their faces light up with hope and excitement as we produce box after box of new and gently used things. As they open them up, you hear them laughing and overjoyed at even some of the littlest things. The mom and dad start unpacking and tears well up in their eyes as they see something they knew they had to have but, just had no way of getting it for themselves. It's all they can do to put a roof over their heads and what food they have on the table. They will take things and immediately start putting them on the countertops and in cabinets. They take the blankets and sheets in and cover the bare mattresses. You cannot imagine the sheer blessing this program is to so many people. The parents look on in disbelief. They say things like, "I don't deserve this" or "you really shouldn't have brought so much - I feel like I'm stealing or taking from someone else who needs this more than I". We have to reassure them that, yes, they really do deserve it. Even though it may not be new, or the best, they deserve anything and everything because they are valuable and are trying to make a better life for their families. We always present every family with a Bible. It is very important to us. We feel that we can go into a home with boxes of blessings and help them out every way that we can. But, we are only able to do so much. God, on the other hand, is able to fulfill every need that they can ever have. He can be there when we are not; to comfort them and give them hope. Before we leave, we always offer to pray for the families. If they have any specific needs we pray directly for those; then over each and every member of the family. By the time we leave, everyone is warm-hearted and teary-eyed. Then it is off to the warehouse to reload for another home to do the same. We do not know the full extent of how much God allows us to bless people. We will never know. But, sometimes we get to hear back from people about how much they were able to do after receiving the items from us.
